Post-interview follow-up strategies
A great podcast episode doesn’t end when the mic turns off, the follow-up is where long-term relationships and opportunities grow. Here are simple but effective strategies to follow after the interview:
1. Send a Thank You
Always send a quick thank-you message within 24 hours.
- Mention something specific you appreciated about the conversation.
- If you're a guest, thank the host for the opportunity and share how you’ll promote the episode.
- If you're a host, thank your guest for their time and insight.
2. Ask for the Link (or Provide One)
Once the episode is published, exchange links.
- Guests can ask when it will go live and where to find it.
- Hosts can send the link along with any social media graphics or promo content.
3. Promote the Episode
Share the episode across your email list, social media, or website.
- Tag the other person when you post.
- Use short clips or quotes to generate interest.
- Be consistent, a single post isn’t enough to maximize reach.
4. Stay in Touch
Follow up a week or two later:
- Share how your audience responded.
- Offer to collaborate again or support their work.
- If it went really well, ask for an intro to other podcasters or guests they recommend.
5. Track Results
Keep a simple record of each appearance or guest:
- Track downloads, leads, or feedback.
- Use what worked to refine future outreach and interviews.
